Introducing the 1987 reissue edition dive watch, the first black CWC divers' watch manufactured for the Special Boat Service with day/date.

Arguably one of the rarest and most sought after SF military dive watches in history, with possibly less than a handful of original examples remaining. This is the SBS divers' watch that many customers have been searching for, that honours the history of one of the most elite special forces units in the world. CWC is proud to have been contracted to manufacture this watch over three decades ago, and we still produce the latest SBS derivative issued to Royal Marines and Royal Navy currently.

The RN Divers watches proved themselves to be worthy successors to the issued watches of the 60s and 70s and the SBS Diver was no exception. Designed to meet the toughest demands of deep diving missions, underwater surveillance, mine clearance, battlefield and dive engineering, it is a tool watch in the purest sense of the word that will perform in the most extreme conditions.

In April 1987 the MOD (N) specification was signed by the officer commanding RM in Poole Dorset, requesting CWC to produce the Black SBS Divers watch on behalf of the Royal Marines.

A special piece that’s worth the asking price

I’d been looking for a military type watch for some while; preferably one that I could wear with a NATO style strap as all my watches so far are either bracelets or leather. I discovered CWC by accident after reading various reviews about other brands in the usual places. There were a few comments about the price being too much for a standard quartz movement which I found irritating as I own both quartz and mechanical and like them both. In any case, it’s really missing the point with CWC, a smaller brand that produces pieces to military spec, and it’s important not to loose sight of this. This IS a tool watch with ‘genuine’ heritage. So, after a while I took the decision to pull the trigger on the the SBS RN ‘87 diver - ignoring the few negative comments I’d seen - and am so glad that I did. It’s a beautiful piece and hasn’t left my wrist since I got it. I love the new (to me) experience of swapping the straps out each day and have already purchased a number of additional straps, including three smart ‘Bond-type’. As for the watch itself, construction is perfect - everything (including the bezel) lines up perfectly and the PVD coating is great, giving the watch a nice stealthy look. The lume is bright, which also includes lume on the bezel. For the bezel- action admirers out there, you should all be content - I certainly am! It has a nice feel. The case size is the perfect sweet-spot for my 7.25” wrist and, being quartz, it keeps great time. I also anticipate that service costs (when the time comes) will be a lot lower than mechanical movements . Finally, service including on the phone - from Silvermans was top notch as I anticipated it would be. The packaging was a nice touch; well though out without being too much. Finally, was nearly £900 a fair amount to spend on a quartz watch? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes, yes and yes! Every penny.

Stellar CWC

Being a buyer from the US I was a little apprehensive on buying from an international dealer but the process couldn’t have been better. The watch is impressive and came in no time. Silvermans even set the watch to the time zone where I live in the States. Very nice personal touch. I’m looking at buying another CWC again!
